“Positive on Purpose.” I recently heard this phrase, and all I could think was, “I wish I’d come up with that…” Such a simple and profound statement.
As I’ve contemplated the idea of being positive on purpose, I know it’s a lot easier than it sounds. We all have those days. One little thing goes wrong, and then, everything is wrong. It’s a vicious cycle that frustrates us and leaves the entire day in tattered shreds.
Why does it have to be like that?
The truth is — it doesn’t. The choice belongs to us. When we let others ruin our days — we surrender control. We are the ones eating the poison and hoping the rat dies. We’re the only ones who get hurt in the process.
And as a control freak — that just doesn’t work for me. I have a feeling you can probably relate too.
I think of that illustration that says:
If you had $86,400 and someone stole $60, would you throw away $83,340 for revenge? Or move on and live? Each of us have 86,400 seconds every day. Don’t let someone’s negative 60 seconds ruin the remaining 83,340. Life is bigger than that, and so are you.
As business owners, we wear a lot of hats. We don’t have the luxury of letting go of control when the entire operation depends on us. We have to stay on our game, and therefore, when a bad 60 seconds crosses our path, we have a choice to make.
Are we going to let it ruin our day?
Or will we choose to be positive on purpose?
